Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Enzo Lucia, I'm 28 years old and I'm an Italo-French hybrid, but the only thing I know how to make in Italian is pasta.

How did you become a photographer?

I left school early, around the age of 15, and started working in a skateshop in my home town of Chalon-sur-Saône. Two years later I was hired by Vans, for whom I worked for seven years in store, first in Lille and then in Lyon. At the same time, photography became my passion, and of course skateboarding. After 15 years of photography using only Polaroid film, I discovered this photo process called wet plate collodion, a process dating back to 1850 that I taught myself and fell completely in love with!

Do you have a particular fondness for skateboarding?

Skateboarding has been a part of my life since I was 11 years old, when I went on my first road trip with my friends in search of the spots we saw in the videos. I skated every day, I didn't go to school, it's and always will be part of my life. Since then, my skateboard has been close to me on a daily basis, and we're lucky enough to have incredible skateparks sprouting up everywhere, giving us a chance to rest the legs we burned out skating street 10 years ago.

How do you generally work? / What inspires you on a daily basis?

I work a bit according to my desires, I organize my own tours with my mobile studio and I travel from town to town to take people's portraits as we used to do in the past. Then I have the studio part in Chalon, where I do a lot of research in chemistry, experimentation and personal projects.

What inspires me comes from almost everywhere except photography. Sometimes it just comes from driving, cooking and doing totally different things, which allows me to disconnect completely, but also by meeting people on the road all the time.

How did you approach this collaboration as an artist?

From the moment I was offered the project, what I was going to create seemed obvious. A declaration of love to skateboarding for all that it has brought me and made me live up to today. It deserves at least a nice bouquet. For those of you who know me, entomology is very important to me. The butterfly above is part of the collection that adorns the walls of my home, my workshop and my truck.

Board presentation: DK500 SH

For this collection, we gave Enzo Lucia free rein to express himself. The result? A magnificent full-dip board available in two sizes: 8.375" and 8.75".

With its medium concave, square tail and nose, the DK500 SH is the perfect board for both bowl and transition.

As a reminder, our DK500 boards are made 100% from Canadian FSC maple harvested from sustainably managed forests, and are pressed with a high-performance water-based glue, which is less polluting than epoxy resins.
